In this interactive workshop, teens will learn how to be responsible for their own nutrition. Teens will learn nutrition skills to prepare them to be “on their own.”  With a busy schedule, it can be hard to find time to stay fit.  Topics of discussion include:  portion sizes, nutrition labels, how to eat in the dining hall, grocery shopping tips, and dorm room snack ideas.  Participants will be provided with examples of a daily meal routine, and a recipe booklet.

In this interactive workshop, teens will develop and integrate new skills of stress reduction into their lives, in the classroom and at home.  The Building Resilience through Mindfulness Workshop will focus on effective, quick skills designed specially for students to reframe success to include mindfulness in academics, athletics, artistic endeavors and leadership.  Participants will have the opportunity to:

  • Identify sources of stress and understand how stress impacts the mind and body
  • Learn practical, quick and effective tools of mindfulness
  • Enhance concentration and creative thinking
  • Improve focus using the same mindfulness techniques as professional athletes
  • Explore ways to build resilience into everyday life

College Preparation: Teen College & Career Exploration Workshop

Date: Thursday March 30th
Time: 6:00-8:00pm
Instructor: Michelle Silbert
Cost: Free
The College Preparation workshop helps teens explore their interests and skills to select possible majors and careers, and then guide them toward choosing five or more colleges that may be the right fit.  Teens will explore what is unique about college and learn the steps necessary to apply. Within this workshop we’ll cover:

  • Prioritizing your skill sets
  • Examine potential majors
  • Prioritize range of criteria to find your perfect fit 

Teens will take the ONET interest inventory and print the results of their three letter Holland Code and five jobs of interest to bring to the workshop.  The workshop consists of a mix of discussion and active card sort activities using both the Skillscan and the College Choice 101.  Teens will leave with a resource packet and a worksheet where they will record their top interests, skills, possible college majors, top college criteria, and five possible colleges to research further.

In this experiential workshop, teens will learn to articulate how they use their time, how they can better prioritize their time and how they may make more time through smart decision-making and planning.  Teens will be introduced to the Pareto Principle, Parkinson’s Law and the Eisenhower Box to help them learn to prioritize their time.  Teens will learn various methods of managing their time including scheduling, the daily one pager, the morning ritual and chunking of time.  Teens will set goals for themselves on how they can use various methods to save and therefore, create more time for themselves.

be-organized-3 Be Organized: Organizational Skills for Teens
 Thursday May 11th
Time: 6:00-8:00pm
Instructor: Nicole Gaba
Cost: Free
In this informative and fun workshop teens learn the basic concepts of organizing their papers and all their belongings. They learn how to keep their rooms in order (bedroom or dorm room) and how to keep all their notes and important documents in an organized fashion for future reference.  Each student will receive a special spiral bound book with sections and learn how to use this book to manage their own life. Teens walk away with practical knowledge and specific examples of how to implement this new information.
